1977 and 1978 were years of flux. Only one pot from each year has been documented. One was ‘found’ after 44 years and the other has been in the Ken Ford vault since it came back from an exhibition in Rockhampton.
“While working at Alexander Mackie in the Rocks Sydney in 1977, as Ceramics Technician, I produced this work and exhibited it at Macquarie Galleries, King St Sydney. The work had 2 titles. (One being a little politically incorrect) Domestic Ware or Kitsch ‘en Ware……… I was reunited with this pot after 40 something years when the owner contacted me through instagram. It has a few chips but what a beauty from 1977. ….. 2 couples having a domestic in the kitsch ‘en … and one poor character knocked out on the floor.“
In 1978 after returning to the Northern Rivers Ken did some throwing for Pentagram Pottery in Lismore. While there Gary allowed him to produce a body of work and fired these in his gas stoneware kiln. The surface treatment is multi-faceted sgraffito, wax resist, glaze and brushwork. Upside Down Pots were exhibited at Up Top Gallery in Rockhampton. This piece is still in my personal collection. Up Side Down Pot 1. The motifs depict spirit enteritis floating in the sky with moon and clouds over a fantasy landscape.
